Most of the members of the lab are headed to the national Society for the Advancement in Biology Education (SABER) meeting in Minneapolis, MN! As a whole, we are presenting two talks and six posters on work out of the lab!
Liz presented a talk entitled "Towards more inclusive evolution education: a call to use cultural competence when teaching evolution" and Christian gave a talk entitled "GenBio-MAPS: A programmatic assessment designed to measure student’s conceptual understanding of core biology concepts across a curriculum."
The lab presented six posters on topics that range from undergraduate research to instructors' use of humor in science classrooms to reducing students' perceived conflict between religion and evolution. Here's the list:
Jasmine is presenting a poster: "Can a five-minute introduction to an evolution module reduce students’ level of perceived conflict between evolution and religion?"
Taija and Katey are presenting a poster: "To be funny or not to be funny: Student perceptions of instructor use of humor in college science classrooms"
Sara and Katey are presenting a poster: "Who perceives they’re smarter? Exploring the influence of student characteristics on student academic self- concept in physiology
Christian is presenting a poster: "Exploring instructor rationale for designing classroom assessments"
Jacquie is presenting a poster: "Identifying the unwritten rules of obtaining undergraduate research experiences"
Liz and Hayley are presenting a poster: "The survey matters: instructors using different surveys to measure acceptance of evolution may be reaching different conclusions about their students"
