New publication: How active learning presents challenges for LGBTQIA students

We are happy to announce a new publication out of the lab published in the September issue of CBE LSE: "Coming Out in Class: Challenges and Benefits of Active Learning in a Biology Classroom for LGBTQIA Students." In this study, we explored the experiences of LGBTQIA students in an active learning undergraduate biology class. We found that these students felt as though their LGBTQIA identity was not welcome in the classroom and this presented challenges in particular when engaging in groupwork with other students who they perceived may not be accepting of their identity.

Congrats to Ph.D. student Katey Cooper on her first first author publication! We are following up these findings with a study that explores faculty perspectives on coming out to undergraduate biology students, so stay tuned for what we find!
