Thanks to a seed grant from the School of Life Sciences, we have started a new Evidence-based Teaching in STEM seminar series at ASU! We welcome members of the ASU community (and beyond!) to attend this Friday afternoon seminar series aimed at increasing awareness and implementation of evidence-based teaching at the undergraduate level. We have speakers give a 45 minute talk on their research, which is followed by 15 minutes of Q&A. Then we have a workshop with the speaker where we think about how we can implement what they talked about in our own classrooms. Through this seminar series, we hope to build a community of thoughtful and collaborative STEM instructors.
Last semester we had the following speakers:
James Collins, ASU School of Life Sciences
Stephen Krause, ASU School of Engineering
Steven Semken, ASU School of Space and Earth Exploration
Bryan Henderson, ASU Teacher's College
Sarah Eddy, University of Texas at Austin Biology Education
Diane Ebert-May, Michigan State University Biology Education
This spring we are continuing the seminar series with the following speakers:
Jan 22nd Jenefer Husman, ASU School of Social and Family Dynamics
Feb 12th Gabriela Weaver, UMass Amherst Chemistry education
Feb 26th Danielle McNamara, ASU Psychology
March 18th Ariel Anbar, ASU School of Earth and Space Exploration, ASU Chemistry and Biochemistry
April 8th Anna Zaniewski, ASU Physics
April 22nd Fabio Milner, ASU School of Math and Statistical Sciences
