Our lab attended the national Society for the Advancement of Biology Education Research (SABER) meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There was lots of great research at the meeting and the lab was well-represented at the meeting with two talks and two posters!
Christian presented a talk and a poster:
Exam characteristics exacerbate performance gaps between male and female students
GenBio-MAPS: A programmatic assessment to measure students understanding of core biology concepts across a general biology curriculum
Erin presented a talk:
Faculty Perspectives on Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs)
Katey presented a poster (special thanks to a SOLS travel grant to help her get there!):
A high enrollment course-based undergraduate research experience improves student conceptions of scientific thinking and ability to interpret data
Liz presented a poster:
Pedagogies of Professors Teaching Evolution at Secular versus Christian Colleges
Our collaborative BioMaps project was also highlighted in Brian Couch's Hot Topics talk and Kate Semsar's poster on PhysMaps. Additionally, Sara led a lunchtime discussion on training in biology education research.
