Sara visits The Ohio State University

Sara was invited to visit Columbus, Ohio to talk with people in the Center for Life Sciences Education at The Ohio State University about biology education research. She gave two seminars: (1) Integrating teaching and research in undergraduate biology lab courses and (2) BioCore Guide: A tool to interpret the core concepts of Vision and Change for general biology majors.

The Center for Life Sciences Education at Ohio State is doing all kinds of innovative work to improve the quality of undergraduate and graduate training! Specifically, they have a really interesting professional development program for graduate students who are teaching assistants. Each semester that grad students teach, they are required to participate in professional development- but they get to choose what to do (e.g. attend seminars, participate in a book club, design new lesson plans, etc.)!
